Shoulder Pain and Car Crashes

Shoulder Pain is a common condition after a car accident, and it's something that Dr. Izquierdo sees frequently in our Mauldin office. Let's take a look at why shoulder pain is commonly experienced after a car crash and see how chiropractic can help you get better.

There are at least two ways that you can get shoulder pain after a crash: by direct injury to the shoulder joint or by referred pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by striking your shoulder on a hard object in the car during the impact, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end collision. With this type of injury, you'll often be aware of the pain soon after the wreck.

More frequently, Dr. Izquierdo finds that shoulder or arm pain doesn't immediately appear after a collision, but begins a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the neck. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can tweak nerves in your neck, causing tingling, numbness, or soreness in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated both types of shoulder problems in our Mauldin office. This approach involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural flexibility and exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

You don't have to suffer from shoulder pain. Dr. Izquierdo is conveniently located in Mauldin to help you heal, whether you've been in an auto collision or not. Dr. Izquierdo will first determine what's causing your pain and then work to restore your body to its natural functioning. Ready to make an appointment?
